Rain Stair
SALEM, OREGON
The vertical lines of this minimal stair for a home in Oregon recall the soft, ever-present rain of the Pacific Northwest. An origami stringer folded from a single piece of steel provides structural stability. Solid wood treads cantilever off the stringer and bring warmth to the design. Vertical steel rods act as the primary structure for the stair.
The minimal structure allows for unobstructed views out to the landscape, drawing nature and light into the space. Moving up the stair with vertical shadows dancing on the wall evokes the feeling of walking through the misty hills of Oregon.
